Dr. Wilson is a board-certified neurosurgeon, distinguished comprehensive spine specialist, and United States Army veteran whose career reflects a rare blend of academic excellence, surgical mastery, and service-driven leadership. He earned his Bachelor of Science from the University of Tennessee at Chattanooga in 2005 before advancing to post-graduate research and mentorship at the University of Alabama at Birmingham—an early foundation for his lifelong commitment to innovation in neuroscience.
He went on to complete his medical training at the James H. Quillen College of Medicine, graduating with highest honors in 2010. His performance earned him induction into both the Alpha Omega Alpha Honor Medical Society and the Gold Humanism Honor Society, affirming his dual reputation for academic distinction and patient-centered compassion.
Dr. Wilson completed his internship and neurosurgery residency at the renowned Lillian S. Wells Department of Neurosurgery at the University of Florida, where he made history as the program’s first African American graduate in 2016. During his tenure, he received the prestigious Chuck Shank Award for Excellence in Neurosurgery and pursued advanced training in minimally invasive and complex spine surgery—expertise that continues to define his forward-thinking, precision-driven approach to patient care.
Military Service
After completing his neurosurgical training at the University of Florida, Dr. Wilson continued his trajectory of excellence on active duty with the United States Army at Brooke Army Medical Center in San Antonio. During his tenure, he emerged as one of the most prolific neurosurgeons in the history of the National Defense Health System and was appointed Director of Minimally Invasive Spine Surgery—a role that solidified his reputation for precision, innovation, and elite surgical skill. His service included distinguished deployments to Iraq and Germany in 2016 and 2017.
Honorably discharged in 2021, Dr. Wilson now brings a rare blend of military discipline, academic rigor, and cutting-edge spine expertise to the Central Florida community, where he serves as a comprehensive spine specialist with Orlando Neurosurgery.
Personal Life
Beyond neurosurgery, Dr. Wilson is a hands-on father of four with a passion for creativity and growth. He’s drawn to photography, fitness, med-tech development, and real estate investment. Off-duty, he’s with family, traveling, training, writing, or exploring standout culinary spots!

My comprehensive training in the variety of neurosurgical subspecialties while at the University of Florida prepared me for a vibrant and busy general neurosurgical practice at Brooke Army Medical Center where I eagerly sought advanced specialty training in the diagnosis and management of spine-related pathology, developing particular expertise in full-spectrum, comprehensive spine care and spine neurotrauma. I now proudly serve patients in the Greater Orlando, FL area as a comprehensive spine specialist with Orlando Neurosurgery!
Amanda B. Smith, APRN, MSN, FNP-C
The irreplaceable Ms. Amanda Smith, is a board certified nurse practitioner in family medicine. She received her Master’s of Science in Nursing from Tennessee State University. After graduating she spent a year working in interventional pain management before transitioning to work for the neurosurgery division of the Comprehensive Spine Center at Vanderbilt University Medical Center. Her pain management experience allowed her to develop a well rounded holistic approach to better treat post operative pain in her neurosurgical patients. She began working with Dr. Wilson in 2018 while at Brooke Army Medical Center treating patients with severe traumatic brain and spine injuries. She is involved in the entire continuum of care of Dr. Wilson’s patients and you will see her in the office, operating room and hospital.
